Treating your snoring with an oral sleep appliance can improve your quality of life and help prevent serious health problems. If you snore on a regular basis, ask us how you can get diagnosed. You can get rid of the bulky machine and switch to an appliance that is lightweight and easy to use.

What Are Oral Sleep Appliances?

Oral sleep appliances are devices that are designed to be worn in the mouth while sleeping in order to treat sleep-related breathing disorders, such as snoring and sleep apnea. These appliances work by repositioning the lower jaw slightly forward, which opens up the airway and helps to prevent the tongue and soft tissues in the throat from collapsing and blocking the airway during sleep. This helps to improve breathing and reduce snoring and apnea episodes.

Snoring and obstructive sleep apnea are both common breathing disorders that can significantly impact your quality of life. Oral Sleep Appliances FAQ

Oral sleep appliances work by repositioning the lower jaw and tongue to prevent the collapse of soft tissues at the back of the throat, which can cause snoring or obstructive sleep apnea. The device is custom-fitted and worn in the mouth during sleep to hold the lower jaw and tongue forward, opening up the airway and reducing the risk of obstruction or snoring. By doing so, it improves the quality of sleep and helps to alleviate sleep-related breathing disorders.

Often times you may not know you have sleep apnea, but your bed partner may notice the signs. Sleep apnea is a complete or partial reduction in airflow through the upper airways which occurs repeatedly throughout the night. It causes drops in blood oxygen that prompt the brain to wake the body in order to restore muscle tone and normal breathing. The most common symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea are:

  • Snoring
  • Daytime sleepiness or fatigue
  • Restlessness during sleep
  • Sudden awakenings with a sensation of gasping or choking
  • Dry mouth or sore throat upon awakening
  • Intellectual impairment, such as trouble concentrating, forgetfulness, or irritability
  • Night sweats
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Headaches

The best way to determine you have sleep apnea and the severity is to undergo a sleep test.

While the out-of-pocket cost for oral sleep appliances is typically around $3,500, it’s worth noting that certain insurance plans may provide coverage for this treatment. Additionally, we offer various financing options in our office to help make this option more accessible for our patients.
